Residents of Grindavik town in southwestern Iceland briefly returned to their homes after an evacuation order due to a possible volcanic eruption.
Hundreds of small earthquakes over the past two weeks have cracked roads.
Police evacuated Grindavik on Saturday after recent seismic activity in the area moved south toward the town.
Monitoring indicated that a corridor of magma now extends under the community, Iceland’s Meteorological Office said.
Residents returned to the town to collect belongings from their homes with the assistance of search and rescue teams
