NOTE: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the flight identified by China as being on October 16th instead of October 14th.
China's foreign ministry said on Tuesday that the Canadian military plane on Saturday violated China's sovereignty and national security, and it has lodged diplomatic protests with Canada.
Global's Neetu Garcha was on board a different Canadian Forces aircraft operating in international airspace off the coast of China on Monday when it was intercepted by a Chinese military jet, using maneuvers that Defence Minister Bill Blair calls "dangerous and reckless."
"A Canadian CP-140 aircraft illegally intruded into the airspace of Chiwei Yu, an island affiliated to China's Diaoyu Islands, seriously violating China's sovereignty and threatening China's national security," said ministry spokesperson Mao Ning Tuesday, referring to the alleged Saturday flight. She added that the "Canadian military aircraft traveled thousands of miles to China's doorstep to provoke trouble."
