A vacant home in Utah County caught fire late Tuesday night, lighting up an Orem neighborhood and leaving residents wondering what was happening.
The incident began sometime before 8 p.m., and KUTV 2News viewers were quick to send photos and videos of the blaze, with all visuals indicating the house would be a total loss.
Orem City Fire Department Assistant Chief Shaun Hirst said the fire broke out at a 27,000-square-foot home located at 497 E. 1450 North.
The seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home at that address as of Wednesday morning was listed for nearly $3.9 million on on the real estate website Zillow, which classified it as having "new construction."
According to the property's price history, the home was first listed for sale in 2016 for $3.5 million. It was listed again the next year and then went off the market for four years. It was listed for sale again in 2021, with the price dropping throughout the year, and was taken off the market when it reached $3.5 million.
The home was unoccupied, Hirst said.
