For the first time, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed allegations that an unnamed Indian official was involved in the attempted assassination of Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. He said India will look into evidence provided by the US. Mr Modi also raised concerns about "extremist groups abroad", accusing them of using the "guise of freedom of expression" to engage in "intimidation and violence". In the past year, several of India's missions in the US, Canada and the UK have seen demonstrations and vandalism by Sikh separatists.
