(13 Nov 2019) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Donald Trump met Wednesday as relations between the NATO allies are at their lowest point in decades.
Turkey is drifting closer to Russia and Ankara faces a Washington backlash over its offensive against Kurds in Syria.
Trump and Erdogan are scheduled to hold meetings, including a separate gathering with senators invited by the White House, before a joint news conference, later on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Oval Office prior to the meetings, Trump called the pair "very good friends" while Erdogan declined to make a statement, saying he would wait until the official talks.
