Strong aftershocks and freezing temperatures have hampered rescue efforts in Japan's quake-hit regions. The death toll from the New Year's Day disaster has risen to 64, with that number expected to climb as many remain missing. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has assured that manpower for search and rescue efforts has been strengthened. More than 33,000 people had evacuated their homes in Ishikawa prefecture, and some areas have no access to water or electricity.
