Yemen's Houthi militant movement said on Sunday that 10 of its naval personnel are dead and missing after three of its boats were attacked by U.S. forces in the Red Sea.
The Iran-aligned group, which has been attacking shipping in the Red Sea for weeks in what it calls a response to Israel's war in Gaza, attacked a Maersk cargo ship on Saturday and Sunday, the U.S. military said earlier.
U.S. naval helicopters sank three of the four small boats the Houthis had used in Sunday's attack and drove the fourth back to shore, the military said.
The group's military spokesperson, Yahya Sarea, said that "forces of the American enemy attacked three boats belonging to the Yemeni (Houthi) naval forces, as a result, 10 members of the naval forces were martyred and are missing.
"Houthi naval forces had carried out a missile attack on the Maersk Hangzhou container vessel after its crew refused to heed warning calls, Sarea said.
