Britain’s chief rabbi has criticised pro-Palestinian protesters for “standing alongside” extremists after Rishi Sunak said marches planned for Armistice Day were “provocative and disrespectful”.
In an article for The Times, Sir Ephraim Mirvis says it is “a stain on our common humanity that so many seem to have lost sight of the moral distance between Hamas and Israel”.
His intervention came before a fourth weekend of protests, which has raised concern that such action could trigger wider public disorder. More officers will be on duty than on previous weekends, with at least 1,600 Metropolitan Police officers and 170 drafted from other forces.
