Over nearly 1,500 kilometers, from Crimea to Belarus, the Russian army has fortified its positions in the war in Ukraine. For several months, its soldiers have been digging anti-vehicle ditches, laying down anti-tank obstacles and placing anti-personnel mines. A dense and complex defensive network, intended to repel any Ukrainian attack.
Le Monde analyzed dozens of these fortified positions, visible from space thanks to satellite images, and spoke with military analysts to better understand their usefulness.
