is the tenth episode of the renovation of the old stone house from 1957 last century. In this video, you will see how I made a bedroom in the attic. I first had to fix the new beam with slats to get a plane on which I later screw the OSB board and thus get the final detail. The layers that I work on from the direction of the attic to the outside are OSB boards, vapor barrier, rock wool, and the final covering profiled sheet metal to which a layer of geotextile is glued.
1.- OSB BOARD: the usability of OSB boards and their characteristics are more or less known to everyone.
2.-VAPOR BARRIER: Water and moisture are the enemies of thermal insulation because they lose their properties in contact with them. That's why vapor barriers - vapor-impermeable foils - are placed on the inside of the wall and roof construction, towards the room. They prevent the penetration of water and moisture into the thermal insulation, that is, the penetration of moisture further into the roof or wall construction. On the other hand, they allow the room, walls, and ceilings to "breathe". During assembly, attention should be paid to the details, i.e. ensure that all joints are watertight.
3.-ROCKWOOL: Stone wool fibers can withstand temperatures above 1000 °C. While the binder starts to evaporate much sooner, the fibers still retain their shape and stability. This is precisely why rock wool retains its thermal conductivity and fire-fighting functionality even when temperatures, for example in the event of a fire, exceed 900 °C. Thermal conductivity depends on the temperature of the object being insulated. At optimal temperatures, rock wool has a thermal conductivity between 0.035 and 0.040 W/mK. The most important advantage of rock wool is its ability to retain its insulating properties for a long time in case of fire. This makes it possible to protect other materials with rock wool from overheating and self-ignition. By using rock wool, temperature deviations are reduced, and in the event of a fire, the potential speed of fire spread is also reduced. The energy of the sound vibrations travels through the structure of the rock wool and is converted into heat. The structure of rock wool simply destroys vibrations in the air and absorbs them with its interwoven fibers. This simple fiber structure makes rock wool one of the best absorbent building materials. Moisture inside insulating materials is known to reduce thermal conductivity properties. ROCKWOOL may appear wet when exposed to water or rain, but this is only superficial because ROCKWOOL fibers are water-resistant.
