The Royal Navy reported that its flagship HMS Bulwark had rescued more than 400 migrants and refugees in the Mediterranean Sea close to the Libyan coast. They risked the dangerous journey overseas to Europe in the hope of finding better living conditions. The navy said the ship was alerted to four 30ft rubber boats in danger 40 miles off the Libyan coast. The people recovered from the vessels, including several children and pregnant women, would be taken to Italy. The rescue mission was supported by a Merlin Mk2 helicopter of 814 Naval Air Squadron.
