Gauteng remains South Africa's economic powerhouse due to its contribution to the country's GDP. Despite the size of the province being the smallest in SA geographically out of the nine provinces, Gauteng contributes close to 35% of the country's income, making it the largest single contributor. According to Stats SA figures, Gauteng contributes one-third of the country's domestic income, larger than the economies of KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape combined.
