A day after suspected drone attacked India-bound ship, another attack on a vessel in the Red Sea sent shockwaves. Gabon-flagged vessel MV SAIBABA, a crude oil tanker, suffered a drone attack in the Red Sea. The 25 Indian crew members, who were on board the ship, came out safe following the strike. Meanwhile, US Central Command claimed that the drone attack was fired by Iran-backed Houthi militants. US Central Command emphasised that these attacks pose a threat to the safety, security of international maritime traffic. Houthi forces in Yemen have been targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea, claiming the attacks as revenge against Israel. However, the Indian Navy on Dec 24 clarified that it wasn’t an India-flagged vessel, as claimed by the US earlier. India, a strong advocate for the free movement of commercial shipping, is monitoring these attacks.
