++The Associated Press is adhering to Iranian law that stipulates all media are banned from providing BBC Persian, VOA Persian, Manoto TV and Iran International any coverage from Iran, and under this law if any media violate this ban the Iranian authorities can immediately shut down that organisation in Tehran.++

STORYLINE:
Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban-appointed foreign minister, met with Iran's top diplomat during a visit to Tehran on Sunday.

Muttaqi also held talks with the Iranian president's special representative for Afghanistan, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported.

The issue of Afghan refugees in Iran was discussed by the two officials, according to an IRNA report.

After United States withdrew troops from Afghanistan in 2021 and the Taliban seized power, the 960-kilometer (572-mile) long border with Iran became a lifeline for Afghans who flocked to the neighbouring country in desperate search of money and work.

Iran doesn't recognize the Taliban and has called for formation of an inclusive Afghan government that involves all ethnic and religious groups, although it holds political and economic ties with Kabul and has allowed the Taliban to manage the Afghan embassy in Tehran.
