In the city of Bukavu, people tried to salvage belongings from their damaged homes and began repair work on infrastructure. Poor urban planning and weak infrastructure makes places such as Bukavu more vulnerable to extreme rainfall. According to a Bukavu official, waste buildup led to the main waterway clogging and flooding houses in the area.
