North Korea said its latest test of a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) aimed to gauge the readiness of its nuclear arsenal in the face of rising American hostility. Pyongyang test-fired the ballistic missile on December 18, 2023, amid warnings that it has the potential to reach all of the United States. Some defence a nalysts said they expect North Korea to continue raising the stakes before the US presidential election in November 2024.
