STORYLINE:
The Israeli military ordered Palestinians in central Gaza, including Bureij refugee camp and five other neighbourhoods, to evacuate and seek shelter further south in the city of Deir al-Balah.
Later on Friday, hundreds of Palestinians were seen evacuating along Salah al-Din Street - most on foot and a lucky few on donkey-pulled carts.
“Where do we go?” said Hatem Ali, who evacuated from Bureij refugee camp on Friday morning.
The evacuation order came as the death toll of Palestinians in Gaza surpassed 20,000 since October 7, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said.
Over the past month the Israeli army has turned their attention to the south of the territory, including the city of Khan Younis.
The fighting erupted on Oct. 7 when Hamas carried out a surprise attack in southern Israel.
Since then, Israel has unleashed thousands of airstrikes and waged a fierce ground offensive, flattening entire neighborhoods.
