Ukrainians are gearing up to celebrate their first Christmas based on a new calendar as part of growing efforts to erase all traces of Russian influence in the country. Like most of the world, they will mark the holiday on Dec 25 instead of Jan 7, when the Russian Orthodox Church observes the occasion. The Ukrainian capital Kyiv has been fully decked out with Christmas decorations. Most Ukrainians are Orthodox Christians. While many are looking forward to celebrating on the new date, some have reservations.
