A few days ago (in June 2022) my son's dog, Reap, a res dog, was in the garage with me and got real interested in a pile of stuff (the garage is a mess). So I suspected Reap smelled a critter. So I unpiled stuff and got to a folded foam mattress. I lifted it up and out popped an animal who had been sleeping in the mattress (never dirtying it at all) but I had my sunglasses on so could only see a small blurry animal walk away slowly and the only animal around here that does that is a possum so that's what I suspected it was. I got my glasses and returned and let Reap lead me to the possum, which he did so I picked the possum up and held him awhile as he played dead. LAter he realized he did not need to play dead so stayed active when I held him. He was very gentle as possums are - even Reap showed no aggression, only interest - so we appreciated having spending the day with him before letting him go under the barn. Each day I leave a little cat or dog food and water out for him and each night he eats and drinks.
