Cambridge Police detectives are investigating a report that a Cambridge woman in her 20s was physically assaulted in the area of Market Street and Windsor Street while walking her 8-month-old dog around midnight on Monday, December 5. The survivor noticed the male suspect walking on the other side of the road wearing all back and a black ski mask. After she passed him and eye contact was made, the suspect turned around and approached her. He then reportedly tackled her to the ground and struck her multiple times. The suspect then took off from the survivor with the dog via its leash, but the dog was able to later escape from the suspect. Officers and Pro EMS quickly arrived on scene and treated the survivor for injuries. She later declined transportation to a hospital.
Following an initial investigation and outreach by the Cambridge Police, the dog was reunited with the survivor later on Monday afternoon after being located by a Good Samaritan. As part of their investigation, Detectives have also been able to retrieve surveillance footage from nearby residents. The attached footage features the suspect, who was walking in the area of where the assault took place more than an hour before it occurred.
