STORYLINE:
Thick smoke could be seen rising from buildings near a hospital in Rafah on Wednesday, as Israel continued to bombard towns across southern Gaza.
The U.N. Security Council again delayed voting Tuesday on a resolution to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza during some kind of a halt in the fighting.
The vote was pushed back to Wednesday in an effort to avoid another veto by the United States.
According to the Health Ministry in Gaza, nearly 20,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel declared war on Hamas.
The U.N. estimates thousands more bodies lie buried under the rubble.
Israel says 132 of its soldiers have died in its ground offensive after Hamas raided southern Israel on Oct. 7, killing about 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and taking about 240 hostages.
