Let s go !
The American bison is a species of artiodactyl mammals from the tribe of bulls of the family Polorogi. Very close to the bison, both species can interbreed without restrictions, giving fertile offspring of bison. Because of this, they were sometimes treated as one species.
In these frames we see how a mother protects her child from wolves !
Eventually they escape into the thicket !
This time the wolves did not succeed !
Immediately, the pit bull terrier dog rushes at the bison
He immediately attacks the dog and the dog runs away !
And then a Grizzly Bear attacks a bison !
In the end , he kills him !
Intro
The bison reaches up to 9 feet in length and up to 7 feet in height. Its thick coat is gray-brown, black-brown on the head and neck. The front part of the body is covered with longer hair. The head is massive, with a broad forehead; short thick horns diverge to the sides, their ends turn inward; the ears are short and narrow; the eyes are large, dark, and the neck is short.
The trunk has a hump on the back of the neck; the back part of it is developed much weaker than the front. The tail is short, with a long thick brush of hair at the end. The legs are low, but very strong. Females are significantly smaller than males, reaching a mass of 2,800 pounds. The bison is very similar to the European bison, and some scientists believe that it does not constitute a separate species, but is only a modification of the bison.
Among the bison of the usual brown and light brown color, individuals of sharply abnormal color may occur.
There are two subspecies within the species — steppe bison and forest bison, which are clearly distinguishable by the features of the structure and fur cover.
Features of the structure and fur cover of the steppe bison — Bison bison bison:large head, dense cap of hair between the horns, horns rarely protrude above the hair cap;
the highest point of the hump above the front legs, a thick beard and a pronounced mane of the throat, stretched over the chest, a well-defined fur cape, lighter in color than a forest bison;
smaller and lighter than a forest bison (within the same age and sex).
Features of the structure and fur cover of the forest bison:
a reduced head, dark bangs of hanging strands over the forehead, horns usually protrude above the bangs;
the highest point of the hump in front of the front legs, a thin beard and a rudimentary mane of the throat, an unexpressed fur cape, the coat is usually darker than that of the steppe bison;
larger and heavier than the steppe bison (within the same age and sex).
Forest bison were discovered at the end of the XIX century. Some scientists consider the forest bison to be a subspecies of the primitive bison that has survived to this day .
Canada, the USA and Mexico on a national scale consider the bison both as a wild animal and as livestock.
Previously, the bison, or buffalo, as it is called by North Americans, was distributed almost throughout North America, but now it is found only to the north and west of Missouri.
Intro
In summer, the bison grazed on wide plains, and in winter they entered wooded areas, migrating to the south, and in summer returning to the north again.
Steppe feed mainly on grass, up to 55 pounds of grass per day, in winter grass rags. Forest animals still eat moss, lichens, branches. They can feed in snow up to 3 feet deep. Thick fur protects the bison well. They easily tolerate 30-degree frosts. In winter, they are looking for snow-free areas.
This clumsy-looking animal moves very easily and quickly, trots and gallops at such a speed that not every horse can outrun it. A bison can run at a speed of 40 miles per hour at a distance of 5 miles, while a horse with a rider can run at that speed for only one kilometer.
The bison swims very well too.
The bison lived in societies, often in herds of 20,000 heads. Each herd is led by several old males who guard it very carefully and vigilantly. The bison is very strong and dangerous in irritation both for the hunter and for any other enemy, has a good sense of smell and hearing. It emits a musky smell that can be felt at a great distance.
Bison are polygamous animals. Dominant males gather small harems. The rut takes place in July and September. Pregnancy lasts about 9 months. The female usually gives birth to one calf, twins are extremely rare. The fat content of milk is up to 12%.
Young bison are very frisky and playful; old ones protect them. The voice of the bison is a dull lowing.
In winter, many bison, especially young ones, died from the frost; often when crossing frozen rivers, the ice could not stand, broke, and whole herds drowned in the water.
