This means that Italy is no longer a free country. It's very, very serious. So, the cry of this square is that we must all be able to allow anyone to dress as they want and walk freely as they feel."

Frankly, apart from understanding why, because now frankly I don't care about that, the important thing is to try to make sure that this doesn't happen."

STORYLINE:
A few thousand people gathered in Rome’s Piazza del Popolo for the “No to Anti-Semitism, No to Terrorism” rally organized by the Jewish Community of Rome and the Union of Italian Jewish Communities on Tuesday night.
Many Israeli and peace flags were waved by demonstrators who demanded condemnation of the Hamas attack and for hostages to be released.
Given the rising episodes of anti-Semitism throughout Europe since the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the event is intended to “launch an appeal in defence of the rights and values that inspire and guide our society,” the organizers said.
“I can't not be allowed to turn around freely with a Magen Dawid (Star of David in Hebrew) around my neck and be afraid that someone will attack me because I use a religious symbol,” said Noemi Di Segni, President of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities.
“This means that Italy is no longer a free country. It's very, very serious,” she said.
